children of Sri Lanka:

About

We formed in 2005 with a desire to help Southeast Asia after the December 2004 tsunami that cost the lives of more than 230,000 people in ten countries and billions of dollars in damage to personal and commercial property. Our tsunami efforts started in Sri Lanka and have grown to encompass a wider assortment of threats to the basic rights of humans and even animals. As a result we are currently developing or operating programs that support lives in the country in new and innovative ways, from providing jobs and cultural exposure to providing homes and security.

Our Name

“P2P” is a well-known acronym in technology circles standing for “peer-to-peer” networking, or digital communication between two or more roughly equal computers or networks. P2P (People-to-People) Rescue was created to provide support to people in need with an emphasis on a similar notion of equality coupled with innovation.

Our Philosophy

P2P Rescue’s individual or organization partners believe all people have the right to a safe and secure life, no matter their religion, race, sex, political viewpoint, income, and so on, with two stipulations: 1) that people freely pursue their beliefs without imposing them by force or any other way on others, and 2) that people honor a lifelong commitment geared toward peaceful resolution of conflict.

P2P Rescue does not promote, endorse, or practice any single religion. It is in its own way, however, a spiritual organization in the sense that its members and partners believe in the power and creativity of individuals worldwide, as well as in their sometimes unseen contributions to the whole of the planet.

P2P Rescue strives to:

  • Work to renew economies damaged during an emergency. Develop projects that help create jobs in areas needing income following a disaster.
  • Build a repeatable, not-for-profit model that can be applied with increasing speed under a variety of post-disaster conditions, including environmental, political, and more.
  • Develop empowering relationships between people and communities whatever their geographical location.
  • Teach new skills, where possible.
  • Educate local communities about foreign cultures.
